This newly redesigned program provides financial assistance to SMEA members and their families pursuing college, trade school, certification programs, and other career-focused educational opportunities.

To better recognize outstanding applicants, SMEA has introduced a tiered scholarship structure that allows larger awards for students who demonstrate exceptional achievement, leadership, community involvement, and dedication to their educational goals.

Scholarship Award Levels
SMEA Excellence Scholarship – 2 awards of $2,000
SMEA Leadership Scholarship – 4 awards of $1,000
SMEA Rising Star Scholarship – 14 awards of $500

Applicants must be:
A current SMEA member
A dependent family member of an SMEA member
The spouse of an SMEA member

Scholarships are available to eligible high school seniors, college students, trade school students, and individuals pursuing career-focused educational programs.

Applicants must submit the following:

Completed SMEA Scholarship Application
Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
Current transcript (unofficial transcripts accepted with application)
Current letter of recommendation
Proof of enrollment prior to receiving scholarship funds
Participation in a phone interview by the Scholarship Committee

Scholarship recipients are selected based on financial need, academic effort, leadership, community involvement, educational goals, and overall application quality. Applicants may receive a maximum of two SMEA scholarship awards during their academic career.
